1. What is the maximum number of residents at your home?
AFH at Silver Lake is licensed for a maximum of six residents, allowing us to provide highly personalized, attentive care in a calm, home-like setting.
2. What are your staffing levels?
We provide 24/7 awake care, seven days a week. Each day shift is staffed with two licensed caregivers, and nights are covered by a dedicated awake night caregiver, including our licensed CNA resident manager.
With a 3:1 resident-to-caregiver ratio, our caregivers are able not only to meet all care needs, but also to spend meaningful one-on-one time with residents—something often not possible in larger assisted living or nursing facilities.
3. What type of care do you provide?
We offer comprehensive assistance, including:
Dressing, toileting, and mobility support
Eating assistance and medication management
Care for medical complications and age-related decline
Dementia and cognitive impairment support
Mental health support
End-of-life and hospice care
4. What kind of food is served?
Food quality is one of our greatest points of pride. We prepare nearly all meals from scratch, using fresh vegetables, fruits, meats, and seafood. Groceries are purchased weekly to ensure freshness.
We bake homemade breads and treats, and snacks and desserts are always available. With our small resident size, we can offer flexible meal options and accommodate individual preferences. Typical meal times are around 8:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 6:00 pm, with adjustments available as requested.
5. What is the home like?
Our home is nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac, creating a peaceful and relaxed environment. Residents, caregivers, visiting physicians, and family members work together to form a close-knit care community that goes the extra mile to meet each resident’s needs.
6. What makes AFH at Silver Lake unique?
One word: diversity.
We are a Korean-owned adult family home with a culturally diverse caregiving team. We are able to accommodate diets influenced by Asian culture as well as other ethnic cuisines.
7. What happens at night?
We have a fully awake night staff at all times. Our night caregiver remains alert and available to provide care, companionship, or assistance throughout the night, ensuring residents are safe and supported around the clock.
8. What is included in the monthly rate?
Our pricing is all-inclusive, with a flat monthly rate that does not increase as care needs change. Our goal is transparency and peace of mind.
Included in the monthly rate:
All meals and snacks
Medication management and nurse delegation
Daily laundry, linens, haircuts, and nail care
Incontinence supplies, gloves, wipes, supplements, and care products
Activities and close supervision day and night
High-speed Wi-Fi and Roku streaming in all rooms
Care plan updates and nurse delegation services are provided by the owner at no additional charge. (The initial third-party assessment is an out-of-pocket cost.)
9. Can family members join residents for meals?
Yes, we can accommodate one or two visitors joining a resident for a meal on an occasional basis. We ask for 24 hours’ notice so we can plan accordingly.
10. What are visiting hours?
Family and friends are welcome to visit. To minimize disruption to residents’ routines, we recommend visits between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm, and outside of meal times. Early mornings and late evenings are typically busy or restful times for residents.
11. How are medications managed?
We coordinate directly with residents’ physicians and manage all prescriptions. We use Ready Meds, a long-term care pharmacy that works with all insurances and provides bubble-packed medications and Medication Administration Records (MARs).
All caregivers are licensed, specially trained in medication administration, and nurse-delegated. There is no additional charge for medication management or nurse delegation.
12. Do you work with hospice providers?
Yes. Many residents enroll in hospice at end of life. We work with several hospice providers, including Evergreen, Providence, and Kaiser Hospice. Hospice teams visit the home while residents remain in a familiar, loving environment cared for by the caregivers who know them best.
Hospice focuses on comfort and quality of life and does not mean care is withdrawn. Many residents continue to live comfortably for months or even years after hospice services begin.
13. Is smoking allowed?
No. AFH at Silver Lake is a smoke-free home.
14. Do residents go on outings?
We do not routinely take residents on outings. For residents who benefit from outings, we encourage family and friends to accompany them. Instead, we focus on maximizing meaningful activities and engagement within the home.
